Types of Aid

The major types of financial aid to help students pay for college or technical training include:

Grants:

Awards that generally don’t have to be repaid and are usually based on financial need.

Scholarships:

Awards that generally don’t have to be repaid and are usually based on skill, ability, talent, or achievement.

Student Loans:

Money borrowed that must be repaid with interest.

The Kentucky Higher Education Assistance Authority (KHEAA), the sister agency of The Student Loan People, administers the following state student aid programs to help Kentucky students pay for college:
